The Hunter Exams, Round 1

It was an impressive sight, a very tall building in the middle of a large open desert. Should be easy pickings, right? WRONG. Around it was a large canyon around it like a moat, at least 20 or more feet separating the general area of the building and the rest of the world. At the bottom of this canyon-moat was a large amount of jagged-rocky rapids, the current to fast to swim and honestly why would you even try? Around the canyon was a scattered crowd, but you could still tell there was a lot of people there. They were all thinking what you're probably thinking.

The rickety plain containing Nikki, Saki, Geal and Gavan arrived slowly across the horizon making its bumpy way to the testing center before a rather sudden landing on the ground. "end of the line, everybody off" teased the navigators as they opened the door to the plains cargo hold to see if the hunter candidates had survived the trip

Gavan was still seated normally in the trailer as if totally unfazed by the rocky trip, there was some iron in him.

"Uuugh, that wasn't pleasant..."
Saki was feeling a little sick already and her back was hurting.
Her mood didn't get better when she cast a quick look outside.
"Oh my... I didn't even know something like this existed..."
Just a second ago, she had wanted to get outside as fast as she could, but now she actually prefered staying in there.
Still, she got up with a deep sigh and stretched her arms a bit.
"Guess there's no helping it, huh? You guys coming?"
She would never have admitted it, but she didn't want to go out there alone.

Gavan scratched his head "so were suppose to get across the moat, that much is obvious but no ones swimming across... I wonder why" he thought for a moment and reached for his grapling-hook as he did so.

Popping up from behind Gavan came that familiar maniac voice. "I knew you'd come in handy~ I picked the right people!" Nikki said rather casually, despite her words that made it seem as though she was using them. Was she joking?

Gael got out of the box and stretched. He pulled out his scythe and the chain from his bag. "Ay, Gavan, you thinking what I'm thinking?" Gael asked as he attached the chain to the handle of his scythe. He also took out a small knife. What could he possibly be thinking?

Gaven was already tieing the free end of his grapling hook to his machete "suppose so" he said simply "call all of you climb?" he turned asking the ladies as he got ready to throw the hook.

Nikki nodded. "If you can't do basic things like that how can you possibly be the best treasure hunter ever?" Was she soliloquizing now?

Gael nodded, smiling. "I thought so." The chain attached, Gael wrapped the loose end of the chain around his left hand. He then began to spin his scythe in his right hand, holding it by the chain. Once he felt it had enough momentum, Gael flung the scythe in an arc at the roof of the building. It stabbed into the ceiling, anchoring it into the roof. Gael then poked the knife in through the last link of the chain, and stabbed the knife into the ground. He then stepped on the handle to drive it deeper into the ground.

Gavan tossed the hook up to the rafters and layed the rope paralell with the chain and stamped the blade in to the earth "alright, I think those will hold"

"Let's go!" Gael began climbing up first, getting to the building with some difficulty.

Nikki almost seemed to slither along the line behind Gael, cheerfully mumbling something along the lines of "One step closer, rare treasure wait for me~"

Saki carefully tested the rope before starting to climb.
She was a fast climber, but she was very careful. Who knew what kind of thing could happen if she let her guard down?

Finaly Gavan moved accross with everyone safely on the other side using both the rope and chain as balances. When everyone was safely on the ground of the other side Gavan pulled back on the rope both ways and retreived his weapon and tool puting them away, now they could register for the exam.

"Hello~ Welcome to the testing building. Please enter to register, the first exam will begin shortly." A receptionist-looking girl in a blue uniform told the group, pointing towards the front door. Other entrants were getting to the other side; there definitely will be competition this year.

Gavan waited to register geting his number and bagde first "number 603 huh? works for me" he said afixing it to his backpack's shoulder strap

Nikki quick signed up and received her number. "Number 807~" She announced whilst ballet-spinning for some reason.

Saki also got closer and drew a number.
"584..."
That was pretty hard to memorize. But she wouldn't complain.
She watched Nikki and chuckled a little.

Gael removed his scythe's blade from the roof and pulled the chain out from the ground by yanking on it really hard. Once he had his posessions together, he obtained his number. "Hehe, 609.... looks the same if you turn it upside down!"

Gavan and company filed in to the building for the next round of testing, would he be expected to floor a tough opponent? Run a marathon? Climb a skyscraper? He was menatly prepared for any test.

A young girl probably about 13 or so years old (looking 10) with a very tall top hat walked out of a doorway. "Hola~ Everyone's here? That's 10,000! Darn, quite a number!" She examined the faces of these ambitious people. "Well, you're wondering what your first test is, right? Well, here it is~!" A curtain came off of the wall where tons of rackets and balls were organized neatly. "Your first test is a series of doubles tennis matches! No catch, just plain old tennis."

Saki raised an eyebrow.
She had expected wrestling with bears, climbing on skyscrapers with glass walls, finding the way through a mazy with tons of traps inside... But not this.
A tennis match?
She wondered if she had played tennis in her other life...
"So, how do we get our partner, then?"

Gavan handt forseen this, what did Tennis have to do with anything much less becoming a hunter!? "well I suppose we should split in to pairs, to be fair lets pair up one gril and one guy and decide by Janken?" he said trying to piece a plan togeather
